Unauthorized Concept Drift During AI Analysis

This case documents an analytical governance failure: a new concept was introduced by AI, challenged, rejected, and then reintroduced later as if it remained part of the approved framework.

Context

During a Daily Zen discussion and AI governance review, the AI introduced the phrase "human comprehension" and began treating it as a central concept within an existing ControlPointAI governance framework. The user immediately challenged the term because it had never appeared in the newsletters, governance model, or established project vocabulary.

Observed Behavior

On the first day, the AI synthesized several existing ideas, including understanding before action, decision quality, authority, and accountability, into a new label: "human comprehension." It then referenced the label repeatedly as though it were an approved framework element.

The corrective review used a simple governance question: Where did this come from? No authoritative source could be identified. The concept was rejected as an unauthorized addition to the framework.

On the second day, despite the prior challenge and rejection, the AI reintroduced the term during a subsequent discussion of a Layman Pang quote. When challenged, the AI acknowledged that it had internally retained the concept and reused it automatically.

Why This Matters

The issue was not whether the phrase was useful. The issue was that a rejected concept reappeared without approval, traceability, or formal incorporation into the framework baseline.

A system should not silently redefine the framework it is supposed to support.

Governance Failure Mode

This is a more advanced form of governance drift. A concept is introduced, challenged, rejected, and then later reappears because the analytical process has normalized the interpretation despite its rejection.

The parallel engineering example is direct: a proposed requirement is rejected during design review, then quietly reappears months later in specifications, procedures, or software behavior because people continued treating it as accepted guidance. The resulting system no longer reflects the approved baseline.

Detection Mechanism

The user identified the drift by asking where the concept originated and why it was being referenced after rejection. That question exposed a disconnect between the approved governance framework and the analytical narrative being generated.
